On the day of the lesson, we will check the weather/beach flags, etc., and send you a text letting you know where we are going to be set up and what is going on with the weather. If it rains we can push the lesson back a bit to see if it will blow over or we can try and reschedule it for another day. If we can’t reschedule, you get a full refund. If there are double red flags then the beach is closed and we will have to reschedule or cancel (which of course you get a full refund.)
Can we do the lesson for the kids only?
Building sandcastles is a blast for everyone, no matter how old you are. We really want moms and dads who might be a bit unsure to jump in too, because it’s not just fun – you can actually learn stuff while you’re at it. Plus, it’s a great chance for parents and kids to get closer and make awesome memories together. Believe it or not, grown-ups usually get a bigger kick out of shaping the sandcastles than the kids, since they get to add all the little details. Make sure to count yourself in, even if you’re just watching or taking pictures.
What does a lesson involve?
It involves a lot of shoveling sand and hauling water. The first part of the lesson involves stacking the sand. This lasts about thirty minutes. The second part is the “lesson part” where you learn how to carve the sand, this takes about fifteen minutes. The remaining hour and fifteen minutes is spent detail carving the castle with bricks, stairs, windows doors, etc.. We usually build a sandcastle about 3 1/2 feet tall which ends up being roughly 25 gallons of piled-up sand and approximately 50 gallons of water.
What ages do you teach?
This is a professional sandcastle sculpting lesson that lasts for two hours. It involves shoveling a lot of sand and hauling a lot of water. With that being said we have had 3-year-olds who were engaged through the whole lesson, and we have had adults and college students who could not follow instructions. Anyone who is self-controlled enough to respect another person’s work is welcome to participate.
Is this for kids only?
No. The lessons are geared toward a whole family experience. This is an opportunity to work with your children and create an event they will remember for the rest of their lives.
This is not just for kids. This is for any age group who has ever wanted to build an epic sandcastle. We have taught lessons to groups of just senior citizens.
We require at least one adult to be present.
I don’t know how many people will be there. Can I add more after booking?
Yes. The more, the merrier. If you send an email to thatsandcastleguy@gmail.com, we will send you a Paypal invoice for the other person/people. We do ask that you let us know at least 24 hours before the lesson to make sure we have the right amount of tools/shovels.
How does it work?
Pick a date and time on the calendar. (Make sure it is highlighted in dark blue.) Fill out the rest of the form. On the day of your lesson, you will receive a text discussing the weather, possibly where to meet, etc.
If you are staying in a condo/house that is directly on the sandy beach then we can come to you. (provided there is beach access/place to park.) If you are not staying directly on the sandy beach then we can meet at a beach access/ or at 7415 Thomas Drive. Rick Seltzer Park.
How early should I book?
The earlier you book, the more likely you are to get the date you want especially if you are going to be here around a holiday or school break.
Where do we meet?
If you are staying on the beach itself we can come to you and have the lesson in front of your condo.
If you are not staying directly on the beach we can meet at Rick Seltzer Park 7419 Thomas Dr, Panama City Beach, FL 32408.
We can also meet at any beach access that has public parking.
